Situated between elevations of 710m and 750m, Maiergschwendt (Ruhpolding) is one of the smaller resorts within the Chiemgau area of Upper Bavaria in Germany.
With just half a kilometre of well-groomed blue slopes to try, Maiergschwendt is an ideal resort for beginners. It has two rope-tow lifts to transport skiers and snowboarders.
For those in search of more challenging slopes, there are plenty of options nearby. Chiemgau boasts a total of 58km of slopes, spread over 10 different ski resorts. The largest of these is Steinplatte-Winklmoosalm, which has 42km of slopes for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
Another resort that is located slightly closer to Maiergschwendt is Westernberg, which has facilities for night skiing and a fun park for snowboarders. Also nearby is Unternberg, which has a bigger difference in elevations than at Maiergschwendt, therefore offers more challenging slopes for skiers to test their skills on.
If you're in need of a break from the slopes, there is plenty to do in Ruhpolding and the surrounding area. Many tourists like to take a cable car to Rauschberg and take in the beautiful panoramic views. And if you're visiting early or late in the ski season, you may be able to visit the Freizeitpark Ruhpolding amusement park before it closes for the winter.
There is also plenty of choice of restaurants in Ruhpolding, such as traditional German eateries like Janos or Die Well. Or, if you're looking for some more international flavours, you can try Ruhpolding's popular Asian offering, Mandarin.
