Which ski resorts have opened for summer 2021?

With the pandemic still present across Europe and vaccination programmes continuing to gather pace, there are high hopes that the 2021/22 ski season can go ahead. However, did you know that some resorts managed to open for summer?

Here are just some of the places which managed to open their ski lifts for summer.

Les 2 Alpes, France

Les 2 Alpes opened its ski lifts at the end of May and is due to close them in August, depending on conditions. The Monts de Lans glacier provides natural snow for skiing from 8am to 12:30pm every day, so you can enjoy a full morning of skiing during the summer months. The slopes rise to 3,500m and there is a huge snow park for freestyle.

For the winter season, Les 2 Alpes is due to open in December this year, all being well, until April 2022.

La Restanque residence is one of Les Deux Alpes top ski-in ski-out developments found in one of the best parts of town.

Tignes, France

Tignes offers summer skiing on the Grande Motte glacier; however, the season only lasts until August 1. The Grande Motte glacier includes 20km of pistes during the summer months, as well as a snow park. Expect to be an early riser if you want to catch the best of the snow! The glacier closes at 1pm, so make sure to fit in a couple of hours of skiing before then.

Tignes should open for the winter season in December this year and close in April 2022.

Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt is Europe’s highest ski resort and has wintry conditions all year round. Although some of the lifts - like the Trockener Steg to Furgsattel - are closed from late June until early October, most lifts and facilities are open 365 days per year. 25km of pistes and eight ski lifts are open all summer, with slopes perfect for all abilities. It’s advisable to head up to the glacier to hit the slopes every morning before the midday sun hits.

Saas-Fee, Switzerland

The Allalin glacier means that you can ski in Saas-Fee throughout the summer months. In total, it has a nine-month season running from July right until the following April! However, like almost everywhere else during the summer, skiing is a morning affair. The glacier is perfect for intermediates, with plenty of red runs and a huge snow park where they host the Saas-Fee Ride event in the summer.
